2017-2018 NALS of Northeast Ohio Chapter Officers

PRESIDENT:  Sarah Twyford, Certified PP, PLS, SC-Civil Litigation

Sarah is a Paralegal at The Daniluk Law Firm in Warren, Ohio. She is a country girl from Trumbull County and started as a legal assistant when she was 17 years old. Slowly and steadily she has moved around, taking every piece of education she could get her hands on to hone her litigation skills.  In 1997, she attained her Professional Legal Secretary (“PLS”) certificate and in 2010 she attained her Professional Paralegal (“PP”) certificate through NALS…the association for legal professionals.  In 2015, Sarah attained her Specialty Certification (“SC”) in Civil Litigation.  For Sarah to remain certified, she must complete 75 hours of legal education within a 5 year period which she does willingly.  Sarah even tried her hand at law enforcement, graduating from the Police Academy with honors in 2001.  She briefly worked on a local police department and spent two years at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation’s main office in London, Ohio.

She has worked in the legal field for more than 25 years, has taken more than 1,000 hours of continued legal education and is extremely knowledgeable about consumer issues, including civil litigation, FDCPA, FCRA, bankruptcy, personal injury and foreclosure defense.

From 2013-2015, Sarah was president of NALS of NE Ohio, a professional association promoting the education and ethics among legal assistants and paralegals. She has taught many legal assistants, paralegals and new lawyers in her 25 years.  Her nickname is the “cleaner” because the attorneys she has worked for have given her difficult tasks and she always finds a way to get the job done.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling the world, reading, cooking, and spending time with her canine children, Jaxson-Teller and Toby.  She previously was certified through Therapy Dog International with her dog, Zeke so that they could visit hospice/nursing facilities.  Unfortunately, Zeke took sick in June 2017 and retired before passing away. She hopes to again train another puppy to do this humbling and joyous work.

Sarah works as a Paralegal for The Dann Law Firm and part-time as a Law Clerk for Vargas Law, LLC. She earned her B.A. in Paralegal Studies with a minor in Pre-law from Kent State University. Sarah enjoys continuing her legal education through the NALS community as well as legal publications. Sarah plans on taking the LSAT this year and is looking forward to her options in law school.  In her spare time, she loves to try new restaurants with good friends, watch movies, and explore local shops.
