HISTORY OF NALS of NORTHEAST OHIOThe Medina County Association for Legal Professionals was chartered August 13, 1977 (No. 877) by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LEGAL SECRETARIES (International), nka NALS, the Association for Legal Professionals, and is also a member of NALS of Ohio. The chapter name was changed to NALS of Northeast Ohio in 2008.
OBJECTIVES & PURPOSESUniform Chapter Bylaws, NALS of Northeast Ohio: ARTICLE I – NAME. The name of this Association is NALS of Northeast Ohio (hereinafter “Association”), a chartered association of NALS, Inc. (hereinafter “NALS”), an Oklahoma not-for-profit corporation. This Association is nonunion, nonpartisan, nonsectarian, and nonprofit. ARTICLE II – PURPOSE. The purpose of this Association shall be to: (1) Promote the objectives of NALS. (2) Carry on a program for the further education of those engaged in legal work and to cooperate with attorneys, judges, and bar associations in stimulating a high order of professional standards and ethics among those persons working in, but not limited to, private law offices, trust companies, various courts, corporate legal departments, and municipal and governmental agencies. (3) Engage in any and all lawful activities and purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. (4) Do any and all other things necessary and incidental to carrying out the purposes of this Association and to have full power and authority to carry out such purposes.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITYIndividuals qualifying for membership shall be engaged as a legal assistant, paralegal, law office administrator, legal secretary, stenographer, typist, or clerk of any law office; any person employed in the court system, the trust department of banks or trust companies, corporate legal departments, or in any public or private institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature, including the public offices of the government, states, cities, counties, provinces, or municipalities. Attorneys are eligible for Associate membership with no voting privileges. NALS of Northeast Ohio is a tax-exempt organization under § 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code; therefore contributions to the organization are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
MEETINGSRegular meetings of this association are held on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings are held September through June with the months of July and August being available for optional cultural and/or social activities. The fiscal year of our association is May 1 through April 30.
